A graphic design does not have to be complicated (containing multitude of graphic elements) to be effective.
Graphic design basically is visual problem solving using text and/or graphical elements. Your aim is to create something that is pleasing to the eye, and gets the attention of the viewer. But things can't just look cool. They have to work as well.
"Graphic design is the process and art of combining text and graphics and communicating an effective message in the design of logos, graphics, brochures, newsletters, posters, signs, and any other type of visual communication. Today's graphic designers often use desktop publishing software and techniques to achieve their goals."
The increase in need for visual communication in various business activities through print, advertisements, Web, Packaging, and so on has led to the growth of graphic designing. Leapfrog has designed a Certificate Course in Graphic Design to serve the increasing opportunities in the field of graphic designing.

The Certificate Course in Graphic Design starts with basics of visual design and then travels through the image-editing techniques using Adobe Photoshop to learn how to enhance the look of the digital or scanned photograph that will be used as part of various print materials like newspapers, brochures, posters, leaflets, packages, book and designing. The course also teaches how to create logo, brochures, posters, business cards, fliers, and packaging designs by using Adobe Illustrator. Finally, the course teaches how to design and publish a wide range of documents in print, by using Adobe InDesign.

The course can be taken up for 4 months or 2 months depending on the students' requirements. On successfully completing this course, the students can position themselves in Ad Agencies, Publishing Firms, Design Studios, and in any other design-related industry, as Graphic Artist, Graphic Designer, Visualizer and Digital Retouching Artist.

Course Information

Image Editing (Photoshop)
The course begins with teaching Adobe Photoshop which is the industry-standard software for image editing. The students use this software to enhance the look of the digital or scanned photograph that will be used as part of various print materials like newspapers, brochures, posters, leaflets, packages, book designing etc. Using the variety of tools and techniques within this software, a student can:
• Create digital paintings
• Crop and resize images
• Correct the color
• Improve the quality of a photo
• Restore and retouch images
• Create composite images (combining several images together)
• Create special effects
• Scan, edit and save the photos in a variety of formats for use in print projects

Digital Illustration (Illustrator)
During the course, the students are introduced to the industry-standard software for scalable-vector artwork. Techniques taught in this module help students to create content that need to maintain print quality even when scaled. For example logos are often needs to be modified in size for using it in small mediums like business cards, larger mediums like hoardings; and converted to black and white for mediums like newspapers. The concepts taught in this module enable the students to create:

• Digital Illustrations
• Brochures
• Posters
• Business Cards
• Fliers
• Packaging

Page Layout (InDesign)
The students are taught industry-standard page layout software that helps in designing and publishing a wide range of documents in print. The software’s support for 3-column layout, text wrap, accurate control over text, powerful tools and strong integration with other Adobe applications enable the students to create efficient page layouts. Using InDesign, the students can create:
• Editorial Designs
• Book Designs
• Brochures and Annual Reports
• Interactive PDF Documents
